Just like anything in life, there are alternatives. The path you choose and the decisions you make can impact the rest of your life AND those around you!


You must make choices in life. Choices about work, play and lifestyle. No one should make these choices for you; that is the lazy way out! If you are an adult (over 18), you should be old enough to decide how to live your life. Don't let the government or anyone else tell you how to live; as long as you choose to live within legal and civilized rules of engagement (otherwise all bets are off!).


In order to make choices you must educate yourself. As an adult, you have hopefully gone to school and learned how to learn! That is what schools are for; not to indoctrinate, but to teach you how to learn! With almost unlimited resources available on a global basis with the Internet, you have few excused not to educate yourself.


When if comes to learning how to choose a lifestyle and way of life, we hope you choose one of health and well being! To this end, this web site endeavors to provide information on a lifestyle of health and ways to achieve and maintain it.


Over One-Third Americans Use Alternative Medicine


According to a new nationwide government survey (1), 36 percent of U.S. adults aged 18 years and over use some form of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). CAM is defined as a group of diverse medical and health care systems, practices, and products that are not presently considered to be part of conventional medicine. When prayer specifically for health reasons is included in the definition of CAM, the number of U.S. adults using some form of CAM in the past year rises to 62 percent.

Immune System: The body's defense department


The immune system is not responsive to drugs for healing. Antibiotics used to fight infections actually depress the immune system when used long-term. Alkaline Body

 

The question of alkalinity vs. acidity in the body.  There are loads of opinions on this, but the one pervasive one is that cancer and other disease cannot live in an alkaline body.  Most believe that the internal pH of the human body is one of the key factors in maintaining organic balance.

  • The scale that is used for measuring the pH, or hydrogen ion concentration is from 0 to 14, with 7 being the neutral point.    Thus, an Alkaline Body pH means that the pH of the blood is above 7 with the ideal pH being 7.35.   Outside of this range the body activity is no longer optimal and the metabolism is out of balance.
  • The pH of the body is influenced by metabolic subproducts and our diet.   Thus, pH is directly affected by the various categories of food that we eat and the internal mechanisms involved in their processing.    Some foods that are acid in their composition can become alkalinizing following metabolization, e.g. lemons.   Accordingly, it is to become more consciously aware of the impact that various food groups and our eating habits have on the internal environment of the body.

Now, how the hell do you tell if you are alkaline or acidic?  Easy, if you have a pool.  Use the test strip to test your pool water; yep, just pee on it or in a cup and dip the test strip.  You can also just spit on it but supposedly the urine is a better indicator of total body PH.  As an alternative, healthfood stores (Whole Foods for one) sell PH test strips.  I am trying to find a chemical supply store that sells one that goes the full range but haven't found one yet.  The one I have only goes to 7.5 while the pool strip goes to 8.5. 


So far I am maxing out both, so have no idea how alkaline I am or if I am TOO alkaline!  I also have no clue how I managed to get to this positive state.  Maybe it is the raw diet and the rest (see next page); just not sure.  I wish I had tested myself before starting all this change of lifestyle and diet.  Oh well, it is a good thing so far.


Do your own research.  I personally would be wary of sites that sell a lot of products, water treatment systems and such.  This can be expensive.  We are fortunate in that we purchased a whole house water treatment (carbon filtration) and water softener some years ago.  Our water in the house tests at 7.5; which is good if you believe the 'experts'. 


I have heard that reverse osmosis is good but removes all the minerals.  Reverse osmosis, also, by removing alkaline mineral constituents of water, produces acidic water. Acidic water can be dangerous to the body system, causing calcium and other essential minerals to be stripped from bones and teeth in order to neutralize its acidity.


A neighbor paid over $1500 for one that just does a single faucet or source at a time; me, I think I prefer the whole house water softner and filtration.  The unit we have uses a large carbon filter and removes most/all particulates and chlorine while the other tank removes organic material (tannin) and softens the water.  Check with your local water guy or a home show (big discounts can be had there!).  Check the specifications and see just what it does.  There are units that will kill viruses and bacteria but can be costly.  Use if needed but don't go crazy.
